1941-1945. As part of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan entered World War II. From the first hours of the offensive, the republic focused on military needs. During the Second World War, 95 women were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
1941 -1945 The only one Medical university in republic shifted to fast-track learning program.
During the first years of the war, 220 factories, plants and artels were evacuated from European part of Russia to Kazakhstan.
Nearly 1,200,000 Kazakhs were conscripted to the Soviet army in WWII. Every fifth Kazakh fought in the war.
