New horse breeds to be developed in Kazakhstan

A new Akzhaiyk horse is planned to be bred in Kazakhstan. Breeders are currenly working in this area. For this purpose, scientists are crossbreeding the Kazakh Zhaby and the Mugalzhar horses. They are expected to be distinguished by endurance and productivity, not inferior to foreign horse breeds.

“We are making a new type by crossbreeding the Kazakh breed with the Mugalzhar one. We select the best studhorse. Our task is to raise a new breed with the best performance. Another direction is to get a riding horse from the Kazakh breed and the English racehorse. This work will take at least one or two years,” said Zhankabyl Satpayev, farmer.

This farm has a total of about 3,000 horses. The main backbone is mares of the Kazakh breed Zhaby. They are considered unpretentious and suitable for riding, however, they are bred mainly for the production of meat and milk. The Mugalzhar breed is distinguished by fertility, high productivity and endurance. The new Akzhaiyk breed will take the best from other breed genotypes, breeders say.

“In order to get this breed, we first crossed the Zhaby with the Kushum horse. Then we crossed also with the Mugalzhar breed to enhance immunity and adaptive qualities. All of these breeds are considered local. They have been adapted to the pasture area for a whole year. By increasing the live weight, measurements, we increase the product and simultaneously preserve the adaptive qualities of these animals in the pasture space,” said Altai Zeinullin, breeder.

The breeder believes that the creation of the new meat and dairy breed is another step towards the production of environmentally friendly products with great nutritional value.
