May 31 marks Memorial Day for Victims of Political Repression and Famine

A flower-laying ceremony took place at the Wall of Memory of the Museum and Memorial Complex ALZHIR. It was attended by the State Secretary of Kazakhstan, Chairperson of the State Commission on Complete Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression Krymbek Kusherbayev together with members of the commission. The participants observed a minute of silence in honor of the memory of the prisoners. Krymbek Kusherbayev reminded that the work of the commission is primarily a historical mission and responsibility to the previous and future generations to restore historical justice.

“We created a special state commission to investigate issues related to the victims of repression and famine, study the history and conduct archival research. A project office, two sub-commissions, 11 working teams and 17 regional commissions are created and now operating as part of organizing the state commission’s activities. Researchers and experts of the working teams and regional commissions got access to closed archival materials and began active research work. The basic methodology was approved, thematic plans of working teams were formed to ensure its effectiveness. Meetings are held on the search and study of archival documents in the field,” Kusherbayev said.
