New toll roads to appear in Kazakhstan

Starting from June, 18 road sections in Kazakhstan will turn into toll roads. Their total length amounts to about 6,000 kilometers. In particular, these are the ‘Western Europe-Western China’ international transit corridor and autobahns. The Sergek video surveillance system will be installed to monitor the traffic flow on the highways. Traffic will be organized in such a way that there will be no barriers at the sections. Drivers of passenger vehicles will pay one tenge per km, while truck drivers will pay from five to 25 tenge depending on the category of the road. There are many options to top up an account linked to the license plate to pay for travel on such roads.

“Drivers are offered more than 20 payment options. Now banks and payment terminals are connected to our payment system. In addition, we have incentives for certain groups and types of cars that can pass free of charge. This includes intercity buses, which are registered with the local administration,” said Rustam Issayev, Chief of Staff at QazAvtoJol Company.

By 2025, the length of toll roads will be increased to 11,000 km. Kazakhstan plans to spend 25 billion tenge (US$58.5 million) on this purpose.
