Dombyra lesson to enter Guinness Book of Records

A lesson conducted at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Nur-Sultan will be included in the Guinness Book of Records. For the first time ever, more than 1,000 students of one school played the main Kazakh national instrument. The lesson was given by the Honored Figure of Culture Aitzhan Toktagan. School students performed the renowned kuis ‘Saryarka’, ‘Balbyrauyn’, ‘Yerkem-ai’, ‘Kenes’, ‘Zhastar bi’. According to the Guinness Book, 25 stewards and two observers watched the event. They recorded the largest dombyra lesson and filmed it.

“There were 1,032 students in class. We monitored this closely and determined a person responsible for each row, who watched over the area entrusted to him or her. Everything was fine, no remarks. All children there played the dombyra, the conditions and requirements were satisfied,” noted an observer Guldana Abenova.

“The idea to set a record came a long time ago. Last year we wrote a letter to the Guinness Book of Records. They accepted it. Then we were told to hold this event as a lesson. Initially, 250 people played the national instrument, and we decided that all school students would play. Our main goal is to educate true patriots of their Motherland, who love their country and culture,” said Kulash Shamshidinova, Chairperson of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.
