Experts: Kazakh citizens support reforms and ready to participate in referendum

76 percent of Kazakh citizens support the Referendum Initiative. More than half of the country's residents are planning to take part in the voting. These are the results of a social survey conducted by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies. Experts believe that the constitutional reform is a real step towards the democratization of society. Work in the regions on informing the population about the referendum is well underway. 

“We, I mean experts of the Sarap Club, meet with political scientists, public figures, activists and together answer questions of citizens. During the meetings with the population in the districts, regions and cities, we are asked questions regarding the amendments to the Constitution. For example, people are interested in what kind of changes will take place, how they will affect their lives, what will be the future of the country and in what format the referendum will be held,” said Bauyrzhan Serikbayev, an expert, Kazakhstan Institute of Social Development.

Leading Turkish experts also supported the referendum on constitutional reform in Kazakhstan. This was announced during the round table dedicated to the nationwide voting on the draft amendments and additions to the Basic Law, as well as the initiatives of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The participants noted that the political reforms carried out by the President of Kazakhstan are very timely and necessary for the development of Kazakh society and the improvement of the well-being of citizens.

“Kazakhstan is developing and undergoing modernization in all areas. The nationwide referendum on amendments to the Constitution, to be held on June 5, is proof to that. Despite being a young country, Kazakhstan is already undergoing such global changes. And, of course, these changes are the demands of times,” said Irfan Kartal, Deputy Chairperson, Turkey-Kazakhstan Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
