CICA summit to be held in Kazakh capital

The anniversary summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan in autumn of 2022. The heads of 27 states will take part in an online format. Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already approved a roadmap, which outlines all planned events within the summit. Kazakhstan has been chairing the CICA since 2019. There are plans to transform the Conference into a full-fledged international organization. The Conference is discussing the creation of a foundation that will respond to emergencies within the association. Negotiations are currently underway to strengthen partnerships with ASEAN and the EAEU.

“According to Kazakh chairmanship, over the 30 years of its development, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures has already created the conditions to call itself an organization. There are distinctive features of the organization from any other forum. These are, first of all, regular meetings at the political level. The declaration that the Conference has turned into an organization over the 30-year experience, will give a political signal that Asian countries are ready to independently determine the ways and vectors of further cooperation in order to combine efforts,” said Kairat Sarybay, Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat.
