Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office: 44 cases under investigation for acts of terrorism

The number of criminal cases involving mass riots in Kazakhstan increased to 695. 780 people are suspected of having committed grave and especially grave crimes during the pogroms, and about 700 of them are under arrest, Azamat Sargazin, Senior Aide to the country’s Prosecutor General, reported. He added that 44 pre-trial investigations have been launched on the acts of terrorism. Cases have been initiated in connection with 15 murders and six episodes related to propaganda and calls for the seizure of power. As for administrative offenses committed during the state of emergency, according to the Prosecutor General's Office, most of those who were arrested by the court have already been released.

“A total of 8,354 administrative cases related to these events were considered. More than 3,000 people were released by the court and prosecutors, taking into account extenuating circumstances. 1,653 violators were fined. Another over 1,000 offenders are currently under arrest,” said Sargazin.
