Kazakh capital to host meeting on Syria

The next meeting of the Astana Process on Syria will take place in the capital of Kazakhstan on December 21-22. According to the country’s Foreign Ministry, the talks will be attended by delegations from Russia, Turkey, Iran, Syrian Government and Syrian opposition. Representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq are expected to take part as observers. The parties will consider the tasks of maintaining the peace in de-escalation zones in pursuance of previously reached agreements as part of the Astana Process. It is also planned to hold a meeting of the Working Group on Forcibly Detained Persons. The participants will discuss the prospects for the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
