Kazakh films enter international market

Kazakhstan presented 13 films at the Moscow International Film Market. As part of the event, three of them were screened separately. These were the film "Scheme", which is about the growing up of teenagers, the historical film "Summer of 1941" and the drama "Zere".

“We wanted to show what the current Kazakh cinematographic scene is all about and what kind of films we make. Of course, these are mostly socially significant movies, because they carry out a serious social burden, and the government sees a special role in funding such films that raise social problems,” said Baurzhan Shukenov, Deputy Chairperson of the State Center for Support of National Cinema.

“We had a chance to see good, very high-level films of different genres. Kazakh comedies are especially popular here in Russia. Because when we all were experiencing a lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic and spent all our time online, we watched your movies. Of course, Kazakh cinema is also famous for its great historical films. We were looking forward to watching the film "Tomiris" in Russia. It was on all platforms,” shared Yekaterina Bordachyova, Director General of the film forum.

The purpose of participating in the forum is to present films for distributors and streaming platforms. According to market participants, in terms of the return on investments in film production, they can already compete with big screen releases.
