International book exhibition features works by Kazakh writers

The works of Kazakh writers were presented at the 16th book exhibition in Ankara. The event featured a presentation of the poem ‘Korogly’ by Zhambyl Zhabayev, the book ‘Kazygurt Stories’ by the writer Nurgali Oraz and the works of the poet Bauyrzhan Karagyzuly. They were translated into Turkish.

“The poem ‘Korogly’ by Zhambyl Zhabayev will become an indispensable treasure of the Turkic world. It was translated into Turkish for the first time. I believe that our participation and great interest in our literature at the exhibition in Ankara is a success. Thanks to our Independence, we have carried out a great deal of scientific research, in-depth work and, above all, we have the opportunity to bring our rich culture to the world,” said Malik Otarbayev, translator.

“The book exhibition is a spiritual holiday for us. We have been in close contact with Turkish writers for several years now. We translate their works for Kazakh readers, and, conversely, they translate our works too. And, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence, my book ‘Kazygurt stories’ was published in Turkish,” said Nurgali Oraz, writer.

The exhibition features about 100,000 books, about 350 writers and 200 publishing houses. As the Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop noted, cultural events make a significant contribution to cooperation between the two countries.

“It is a great honor for us that writers of the brotherly Kazakh nation take part in the exhibition. Such events are important for any city, and especially for Ankara. There are a lot of young people in the city who read a lot, because it has 22 universities and over 300,000 students,” said Mustafa Sentop, Turkish Parliament Speaker.
