Kazakh capital to host ‘Denis Ten Memorial Challenge’

Nur-Sultan will host the international figure skating tournament in memory of the Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten. Sports competitions will be held from October 28 to October 31. According to the organizers, 100 athletes from 20 countries are expected to participate. The Denis Ten Memorial Challenge will be held this year for the second time.

“The winners of this year’s World Championships and the athletes who will take part in the Beijing Olympics next year are among the tournament’s participants. In 2019, when the first tournament took place, athletes from 18 countries came to visit us. This year, the geographical diversity of participating countries has expanded. Athletes compete both individually and in pairs. The tournament has entered the Challenger category of the International Skating Union. This means that the winners will receive the second highest level of points after the World Championships, the Olympic Games, and also the International Grand Prix,” said Shamken Baiyrbek, spokesperson for Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The event, organized by the relevant department, is supported by the National Olympic Committee and the mayor’s office of Nur-Sultan with the assistance of the Denis Ten Foundation.
