Public councils review over 20,000 regulatory documents

Public councils have reviewed over 20,000 regulatory documents in five years. More than 2,000 of them were returned for revision, stated Kazakh Vice Minister of Information and Social Development Bolat Tlepov at a press briefing. Thanks to the institution of public councils, the shortcomings of documents that directly affect the lives of citizens were identified in a timely manner, he said. The fact that the heads of state bodies have now begun reporting to the public councils also plays a major role in effective governance.

“Every year, 1,500 civil servants report to public councils. This has provided an opportunity to obtain answers to questions that have arisen. Over the past five years, more than 1,000 studies have been conducted as part of public monitoring of the quality of public services, and more than 2,000 questions have been raised as a result of open debates on the most pressing issues for all. And all of this is the result of the great work of our active citizens, who can always deliver a proposal. This is a real victory for civil society as a whole,” said Bolat Tlepov, Kazakh vice Minister of Information and Social Development.
