Nazarbayev University Artificial Intelligence Campus to open in Almaty

An Artificial Intelligence Campus of Nazarbayev University will be opened in Almaty. This was announced during the meeting of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Nazarbayev University Shigeo Katsu. Future activities will involve projects in the development and application of artificial intelligence technologies, Nursultan Nazarbayev said. Negotiations with foreign companies that will implement the project have already been completed, he added. During the meeting, they also discussed the achievements of the Nazarbayev University in 10 years and the progress of implementation of the strategy of its further development. In terms of the quality of scientific research, the university entered the Top 10 in the Eurasian space, competing with the leading universities of the continent, Katsu said. It now has about 7,000 students.

“The young state needed modern personnel, so I first announced the ‘Bolashak’ program, and then gradually Bolashak switched to our university. We transferred many undergraduate students there, and the tuition for studying abroad was two times more expensive, now it is twice cheaper,” said Nursultan Nazarbayev, First President of Kazakhstan.

“Nazarbayev University was established to bring in a kind of Bolashak model to Kazakhstan. That is, the idea was to open a higher education institution in the country that would be of the same quality as foreign universities. First and foremost, the First President of Kazakhstan instructed us to establish a research university with equal access for all, and which would be open for admission to all talented students,” said Shigeo Katsu, President, Nazarbayev University.
