First-graders in Kazakhstan to receive ABC books with QR-codes

An innovation awaits first-graders in Kazakhstan on September 1. During a celebratory assembly, they will receive ABC books in Kazakh and Russian with QR codes that can reproduce the content of the textbooks in audio and video format. It is possible to scan the QR through a smartphone camera, after which an animation task will appear on the screen. Creative presentation of the material will help to involve first graders in the educational process and make it easier to master the school curriculum, the authors said. The new version of the ABC book in Kazakh was developed according to the methodology of the outstanding educator Akhmet Baitursynov on the principle “from simple to complex.” Children will study with the new textbooks in the first two quarters.

“QR code is just an additional feature. This does not mean that you will not be able to study the material if you do not use the QR. It can also be used during a lesson, if a teacher deems it necessary. A child together with his or her parents can independently use the QR code when doing an exercise. But it is up to them,” said Yeldos Nurlanov, Director of the Scientific and Practical Center for Examination of Educational Content.
