Nearly 9,000 ethnic Kazakhs receive Kandas status over six months of 2021

Since the beginning of 2021, 8,867 Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland and have received the status of Kandas, reported the press service of Kazakh Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. The department noted that the largest number of Kandas people returned to Kazakhstan is from Uzbekistan, almost 10.5 percent moved from China, 7 percent from Turkmenistan, and the rest from other countries. Ethnic Kazakhs returned to their home prefer to settle in the southern part of the country, mainly in Almaty, Turkistan and Zhambyl regions, as well as in Shymkent city. Over 1.79 million ethnic Kazakhs have returned to Kazakhstan since 1991.
