Turkistan region develops ‘smart’ wells

Smart wells are being developed in Turkistan region. Technological wells help local farmers get water from a solar-powered power plant. Nurfarabi Utegen experienced the advantage of the new technology. He engages in livestock farming and now it will be easier for him to provide water to his farm.

“Bekpak dala occupies more than a million hectares of the territory of the Suzak district. We are working very hard to establish a water supply there. As part of the state program, we help farmers not only drill wells, but also partially cover the cost of purchasing sprinkler irrigation systems. Last year, one and a half billion tenge were spent on these works,” said Kaiyrbek Meirmanov, Head of Agriculture Department of Suzak District.

Over 70 such wells were drilled in the district as part of the state program so far. According to the governor’s office, this year they will increase their number and equip remote farms with solar panels.
