Kazakhstan plans to begin COVID-19 vaccinations for children in fourth quarter of 2021

Kazakhstan plans to start vaccinating children against COVID-19 in the fourth quarter of this year. It was announced by the Head of Nur-Sultan Association of Paediatricians, Doctor of Medicine Sagira Abdrakhmanova. She added that immunization will take place on a voluntary basis.

“As known, the Health Ministry has signed a contract with Pfizer. We’re going to start inoculating children with this vaccine already in the fourth quarter of this year. I would like to point out that according to observations, complications are rare in adults who have been immunized with this vaccine,” Abdrakhmanova said.

Dinagul Bayesheva, the leading infectious disease expert in Kazakhstan, noted that the current situation regarding the morbidity of children in the country is critical. She believes that in order to improve the overall picture, it is necessary to vaccinate at least 80 percent of them.
