Share of renewable energy grows in Kazakhstan

Electricity generation from RES in Kazakhstan has grown by almost 15 percent over the year. In the first quarter of 2022, the country received up to 933,000,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity. More than half of them were produced by wind farms, whereas the rest accounted for solar, small hydroelectric and bioelectric power plants, reports finprom.kz portal. However, this is only 3 percent of the total capacity of all electricity generation in the country. Kazakhstan ranks 33rd in the global ranking in terms of renewable energy capacity. The top three are Norway, Brazil and New Zealand. Kazakhstan is planning to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 15 percent by 2030.
