Kazakh automotive industry ramps up production

Kazakhstan exported more than 12,000 cars last year. Supplies to foreign markets have grown by 45 percent since the beginning of 2022. Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan purchase vehicles assembled in Kazakhstan, the country’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development reported. Overall, 93,000 cars were produced in Kazakhstan in 2021. According to experts, it is planned to make more than 100,000 cars this year. Over 22,000 new cars rolled off the assembly line in the first four months. Demand for domestic cars is growing despite rising price. However, prices for domestic vehicles are still much lower comparing to other countries, experts noted.

“The cost of vehicles in Kazakhstan is much cheaper than in other markets. Yes, there are some markets in the world that sell certain car models cheaper than in Kazakhstan. Be sure to compare cars of the same model, options and configuration. This shows that the price of manufacturers and official distributors is not that different,” said Anar Makasheva, Vice President of Kazakhstan Auto Business Association.

The share of domestic production in sales of new cars amounted to 65 percent in 2021. It may increase this year, thanks to the program of preferential car loans inclusively. Manufacturers said they are ready to meet all the demand that has arisen as part of it.
