Senate to reconsider public debt under revised budget

The Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament will consider the country’s revised budget for 2022 once again, taking into account its public debt. The budget was approved by the Mazhilis members the day before. The issue of increasing the public debt was criticized before, the Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev said. The government pledged to take the situation under control then. Now the Senate will carefully review the draft revised budget,0020he added, and will propose amendments in the near future, if necessary.

“It is not clear to me yet. Our colleagues from Mazhilis considered it yesterday. We are supposed to receive the draft budget today. We will consider and review it very carefully. If there are any questions, we will certainly raise them and address the government representatives. Of course, we cannot say now what issues we will raise. It is too soon. Give us at least a week to work with the document and make a decision,” Ashimbayev said.

At the beginning of this year, Kazakhstan’s public debt reached 22 trillion tenge (US$49.5 billion), which makes up 27.4 percent of GDP, the Kazakh Finance Ministry informed.
