Prices of Kazakh cars to not be affected by reduction of recycling fee rates

Reducing the rate for the recycling fee will not affect the cost of domestic cars. Today, at a briefing, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development explained that their price was never included in the recycling fee. All car models popular among Kazakh residents are produced by local factories. Vice Minister of the relevant department Marat Karabayev announced the statistics of last year. Thus, in 2021, 65 percent of all vehicles sold were assembled in the country. The remaining 35 percent were imported, for which owners had to pay the fee. The representative of the department also explained why the funds of the disposal fee are returned to the domestic auto industry, and not sent, for example, to solve environmental problems.

“Firstly, the legislation provided for the following: a recycling fee, which, in addition to the fee for recycling, provides for the protection of the domestic market. Secondly, this is a mechanism for attracting investments. At the same time, I would like to note that one way or another, all countries protect their own market. Russia, Belarus and Uzbekistan have a similar disposal fee. That is, in addition to protecting the environment, these mechanisms protect the domestic market,” Karabayev said.
