IMF forecasts slowdown of global economic growth to 4.4%

The outlook for 2022 has become less positive. The International Monetary Fund revised its expectations for global economic growth. It is now projected at 4.4 percent compared with the previous 4.9 percent. According to the financial institute analysts, the global economy is entering 2022 in a weaker position than predicted. The reason for this is Omicron, the new COVID variant, because of which countries are imposing restrictions on movement. In addition, rising energy prices and supply disruptions are driving high inflation, both in the US and in many emerging markets. The global growth slowdown is also affected by the deterioration of the situation in the world’s two leading economies, the U.S. and China, experts emphasize. However, the IMF expects the global economy to grow in 2023 to an overall rate of 3.8 percent, which is 0.2 percent higher than previously anticipated.
