What were the years of deportation?

Alla Kogai recounts the story of how her grandmother survived the deportation. In 1937, the entire community of Far Eastern Koreans was deported to Kazakhstan. Due to strict military orders, none of them were allowed to say their last goodbyes to their families. They left with nothing but clothes on their back. Many of the deportees who survived the deportation are still afraid of trains. The journey to an unknown destination was very long.
