China commemorates Kazakh composer Bakhytzhan Baikadamov

In memory of a musical genius. A monument dedicated to the composer Bakhytzhan Baikadamov was erected in Guangzhou. Next to the famous Kazakh composer, Chinese sculptors depicted composer Xian Xinghai. It is known that the musicians have been friends for many years. Of course, each of them left an invaluable mark on art.

“We are glad to be named after Bakhytzhan Baikadamov. We know that this person made a huge contribution to the formation of Kazakh choral music and song culture. We have been to China many times. We liked this country. A sensitive and interesting listener. We performed the works of Xian Xinghai twice. We sang the wonderful Yellow River Cantata, the work “Sunrise”,” said Beimbet Demeuov, Artistic Director, Bakhytzhan Baikadamov State Choir Capella.

The name of Bakhytzhan Baikadamov is widely known in China also thanks to the film “Composer”. It was shot by filmmakers from both countries and was released literally two years ago. Part of the film was made in Almaty, where two great musicians met. The film tells about the life of Xian Xinghai in the Soviet Union.

“When the Chinese filming was opened, our producer Jonathan Shen was giving interviews to Chinese TV channels, and he said such words that I very liked to hear. He said that the Chinese are a people who remember good deeds. With this film, I want to remind the Chinese people of the good that the Kazakh people have done for the Chinese in the person of Baikadamov,” said Kuanysh Akhmetov, Executive Producer, “Composer” Film.

Xian Xinghai wrote about 300 works in Kazakhstan. He became almost a native person for the Baikadamov family. Even after decades, this connection is not lost. The descendants of the great composers are close friends to this day.
