What are the professions of future?

Genetic code editor, digital tailor, data detective - no, they are not heroes of a fantasy movie, these are the professions that will be in demand in the labor market in the coming years. Experts estimated that the list of jobs will have been updated by 85 percent by 2030, while many current professions will disappear for good. In the next five to 10 years, there will be 239 new professions in Kazakhstan, 95 jobs will be transformed and 129 will fade away. These data were obtained by extensive research and presented within the ‘Atlas of New Professions and Competencies of Kazakhstan’ project.

“There are professions, such as cyber lawyer, big data analysts and new generation chemists. Why does Kazakhstan need them now? The whole world is moving towards this, and Kazakhstan should not be left behind. For example, there are many tasks, jobs involved in collecting data. Going to the field or, as in the mining industry, walking a few kilometers every day, collecting data. Why would people do that if there are drones, which can make a round in five minutes. Computer vision technology allows calculating, measuring and collecting the data automatically,” noted Gizat Makhanov, Developer of “Atlas of New Professions and Competencies of Kazakhstan.”

Diana Bektursynova is among those who have acquired one of the new professions. She is a professional organizer. It is a person who can help people solve their problems of clutter in homes, offices and housekeeping areas. This profession originated in the US at the end of the 20th century. In Kazakhstan, it is just emerging. Possibility of working remotely is one of the advantages of this job, she said.

“People tend to have too many things, definitely way more than they actually need. Some clients at first were asking me what do I do? Is it cleaning services? Are you teaching us how to clean? Of course, not. For example, our moms didn’t have that much stuff, so they didn’t have to care about organizing such a huge amount of things. Every year it becomes more and more relevant,” said Bektursynova.

And more on careers of the future. Most of the new professions are actually in IT, oil and gas, and mining and metallurgy, experts say. Among the jobs that may disappear very soon are accountants, translators, librarians, travel agents and waiters. Experts attribute this to the fact that in the digital globalization era the structure of the labor market is completely changing. People need to develop their skills and constantly improve themselves in order to remain in demand. That is, keep up with the times.
