Incidents of children falling out of windows proliferate in Kazakhstan

Windows are life threatening. With the coming of warm days, incidents of children falling out of window openings became more frequent in Kazakhstan. Experts have already recorded four cases in the capital in several months. Two of them happened literally in the past two weeks.

“You should never think that this will happen with somebody else somewhere in another city and you will see this only on TV in the situation report. The truth is that this can happen at any time with anyone. It takes a split second. It seems to parents that this will not happen when they are at home. We registered cases when parents picked up their child themselves, showed a window, put him or her on windowsill to show what is happening outside, and the child fell out and died,” said Nellya Doschanova, Chief Officer of the Juvenile Unit of Nur-Sultan Police Department.

According to officers of the internal affairs department, the outbreak of the cases occurred last year. The highest number of 28 incidents was recorded then, wherein six children could not survive after falling from high-rise buildings. Law enforcements officers warn of danger and advice not to neglect safety measures, by installing both blockers and metal grilles. The latter, are safer, by the way, officers noted.
