Mangystau farmer created fruit garden in desert

An orchard in the middle of a desert - a farmer from Mangystau gets good harvests of apricots, grapes and apples using modern technology of drip and automatic irrigation. Zhaksylyk Ibadullayev specifically uses water from underground sources. In recent years, the farmer decided to take up greenhouses as well. Here he mainly grows tomatoes and cucumbers. Last year, more than 100 tonnes of vegetables were harvested. The daily harvest of cucumbers alone amounts to half a tonne.

“I started a farm in 2005. Everything I knew was about watermelons. Now I know a lot about growing other crops too. I study how other plants will behave. Last year, we planted alfalfa on three hectares of land. We grow it for livestock feed,” said the farmer.
