Interior Ministry reports on current migration situation in Kazakhstan

Since April of 2022, Kazakhstan has become ground zero for emigration and migration. This is when border checkpoints were opened after two years of quarantine restrictions. Since then, about 4,400,000 foreign nationals have entered Kazakhstan. Almost the same number of people have left the country during this period. Acting Chairman of the Migration Service Committee of the Kazakh Interior Ministry Aslan Atalykov reported on the current situation with the migration in Kazakhstan at a briefing. According to him, the largest number of 1,700,000 migrants came from Russia, and 1,666,000 left. One million and a half people arrived from Uzbekistan, 1,370,000 out of which have already left the country. The citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Turkey and Germany have come over this time. The speaker stressed that Kazakhstan has great transit opportunities. Many foreign nationals depart for other countries from here.

“Of course, a massive migration flow is primarily associated with the neighborhood, and here we should not forget about the transit potential of Kazakhstan for Russian citizens. As for the transit, over 40,000 citizens of Russia have left Kazakhstan over the past few days.  Thousands went to our southern neighbors – Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Over five days, almost 6,000 Russians flew out of Kazakhstan through our airports,” Atalykov added.
