Days of Kazakh Cinema held in Kyrgyzstan

Two domestic films “Mukagali” and “The Fire” were presented in Bishkek. The film premieres took place as part of the Days of Kazakh Cinema. Bolat Kalymbetov’s feature film “Mukagali” tells about the final years of life of the famous Kazakh poet.

“This film is not about the work of the poet, this is a film about the fate of Mukagali Makatayev as a creator. A story about his talented nature, life position and the era when he wrote his poetry. Why did he pass away so early only being 45 years old, what caused his conflict with the system? We tried to answer these questions in the movie,” said film director Bolat Kalymbetov.

The second film presented at the two-day festival was “The Fire”. According to film critics, the work of director Aizhan Kassymbek will appeal to the Kyrgyz audience, because the social issues shown in the comedy are very familiar to local residents.

“In recent years, not because of the pandemic, there is a lack of information about Central Asian cinema. Therefore, we must learn what is happening in Tajik, Uzbek, Turkmen and Kazakh cinemas, we should think about some joint projects. And, it is also very useful for the audience, because man does not live by bread alone,” Kyrgyz filmmaker Artyk Suyundukov said.

It bears noting that Kyrgyzstan became the first country that hosted the Days of Kazakh Cinema. 15 more countries will hold the event in the future.
