Urban planning councils to be created in Kazakhstan

Urban planning councils will appear in regional centers of Kazakhstan. They will include qualified specialists. For example, the council has already been formed in Almaty, it will start working from August 1, Chairperson of the Kazakhstan Union of Architects Serik Sultangali stated. According to him, it will be possible to regulate issues in the field of architecture and construction through organizations created under the mayor’s offices. In particular, there are issues related to violations of a single infrastructure, such as in Almaty. The expert stressed that a lack of competent planning, infill development eventually led to the loss of squares and parking lots. Experts also spoke about other important issues, which hinder full-scale development of domestic urban planning industry.

“The City Council is already functioning in Almaty. Now, we aim to open the councils in other regions. Particularly, there are problematic cities, such as Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Taraz, Petropavl and Pavlodar. We need to create these city councils under the mayor’s offices, where members of the Kazakh Union of Architects will be required to participate,” Sultangali said.
