Archaeologists discover Kimak mounds in Pavlodar region

Pavlodar scientists discovered several ancient burials not far from the regional center. Experts believe that these are historical monuments of the 9th-10th centuries related to the Kimak-Kipchak culture. According to the scientists, parts of silk fabric were previously found here. Thus they suggested that the burials contained the remains of wealthy people.

“Almost nothing is known about the architecture of nomadic peoples. This makes the object more unique. The question whether to search for cities of the Kimaks remains relevant. A lot has been said about this, but so far, we have found vast necropolises near the city of Pavlodar,” said archaeologist Elena Tusheva.

Scholars hope that there are evidences of Kimak architecture in the mounds. So far, only fragments of bricks have been found. Archaeologists state that everything interesting is yet ahead, and expect the second stage of excavation to begin. School children also participate in the research.

“During the expedition we are studying the Kipchak mounds. In general, it’s very interesting. Despite the fact that archeology is not related to tourism. To this day, we have explored Bayanaul, Ekibastuz and Pavlodar,” said student Yerassyl Kazhatolla.
