Kazakh capital hosts private screening of film about Adi Sharipov’s journey during WWII

The film “Summer of 1941” was privately screened in Nur-Sultan to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Belarus. The plot of the film is based on a true story. It tells about the journey of a Kazakh hero Adi Sharipov during the Great Patriotic War, also known as the World War II. The man’s decisive actions allowed to resist the Nazi onslaught on the territory of occupied Belarus. This is also where the majority of the filming took place, while some scenes were shot in Almaty. Adi Sharipov is a Kazakh scientist, writer, and a public figure. He was one of the first to lead a partisan detachment in the Belarusian forests.

“There are not many veterans left in Kazakhstan – approximately 600 across the country. Gone are the participants of that Great Patriotic War who experienced the horrors firsthand. There is no longer the possibility to pass this legacy on. Therefore, films of this kind become the opportunity to impart to the modern generation all the horrors and struggles of war. It has one simple goal: to prevent this from occurring again,” said Pavel Utyupin, Ambassador of Belarus to Kazakhstan.
