Kazakh schools students win medals at ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022

Kazakh school students won 72 medals at the International School Sport Federation Gymnasiade 2022 in France. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science, 28 of these are gold and silver medals, as well as 16 bronze ones. Schoolchildren won in competitions in taekwondo, swimming, athletics, judo, freestyle wrestling, fencing, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, archery, boxing and women’s wrestling. The Gymnasiade was held in Normandy, France from May 14 to 22. The largest multi-sport event is designed for students of general education institutions aged 16-18. Kazakhstan took part in the competition for the first time. Representatives from 64 countries competed in 17 sports, as well as in three Paralympic disciplines. Around 250 school students represented Kazakhstan.

“God willing, I will win the Olympics, world championships, and raise the banner of our country. It is a motivation for all children who travel abroad, participate in competitions, meet children from other countries, and gain experience,” said Yerbolat Syzdyk, a winner of Gymnasiade 2022.

“Our president declared this year the year of children. Such a big holiday was presented to kids. The Kazakh team came here to show their skills, and, as you can see, they are not on the sidelines, but win. We also set ourselves the goal to reach the top three national teams in order to raise the banner of our country. We are confident that there are future Olympic champions among these young athletes,” said Sagdat Sadykov, the Director of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Physical Culture.

Kazakhstan was also marked by the fact that for the first time delegate Nurzhan Nurakhmetov entered the executive committee of the International School Sport Federation. This means that Kazakhstan has become the most active participant in the global movement for the health of the younger generation.
