Unique artifacts transferred to museum

Unique artifacts, namely fragments of a golden diadem dating from the second to fifth centuries BC, were transferred to the Central State Museum in Almaty from the Margulan Institute of Archaeology. The most valuable finds of antiquity, the legendary Kargaly treasure, were stored there before. All of the exhibits of the historically significant excavation will now be in a single collection. However, much more work needs to be done to find the missing fragments and explore the gaps in the history of that period, scientists say. It’s worth noting that the artifacts were accidentally discovered in 1939 by a resident of the Fabrichny village Nikolai Yessipov.

“A total of more than 300 gold items were found in the Kargaly burial site. During the research, it was found that this is the burial place of ancient Wusuns. The study of the site itself was able not only to shed light on the origin of these artifacts, but also to establish that among them there are scattered elements of large jewelry, such as a diadem inlaid with precious and semiprecious stones,” said Akan Ongaruly, the Director General of the Institute of Archaeology.
