Monument to Roza Baglanova unveiled in Almaty

A monument to Roza Baglanova was unveiled in Almaty. A bronze statue almost five meters high was installed in front of the building of the Zhambyl Kazakh State Philharmonic. The heyday of the career of the ‘Kazakh Nightingale’ came at the beginning of the Second World War. Baglanova performed in front of the soldiers as part of a group of artists. The famous song ‘Ah, Samara-Gorodok’ became her hallmark. During her long career, the singer received a huge number of awards and great public recognition.

“There is now a new monument to Roza, the beloved daughter of the people. She is known not only in her native country, but also far beyond its borders. Roza's contribution during the war is invaluable,” said Assanali Ashimov, the Hero of Labour of Kazakhstan.

“It’s really a gift for everyone who knew her. She really was a popular singer regardless of nationality, just a really unique person. It's just that when foreigners call and hardly pronounce her last name with an accent, and they sing her songs clearly without any mistakes - it really means a lot,” opined Tazhen Baglanov, a son of Roza Baglanova.

This year, to mark Baglanova’s 100th birth anniversary, 25 events will be organized in Kazakhstan and five at the international level.
