Kazakh citizens discuss creation of three new regions

The news that the new administrative units will appear on the map of Kazakhstan is being actively discussed among the public. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted in his Address that “we will continue to strengthen our national identity, returning the original geographical names and reviving the memory of our great figures.” Citizens of the country believe that this is not only respect for history, but also the best solution for local self-government.

“For the residents of Semei, this is a great joy, it is timely decision and, given the rich historical role of our city, which has always been one of the centers of ideas, culture and politics of our state, I think this is also a fair decision,” said Semei resident.

“For the residents of Semei, this is great news. I think that this will contribute to the development of the city,” added another Semei resident.

“I think that it is time to divide the regions, because Almaty region is one of the largest in the country. I believe that this is a necessary condition for the transformation,” noted Almaty region dweller.

“I think it is better to name the city Kapshagai in honor of Kunayev. After all, he is a person who has done a lot for the country and the region,” explained one of Kapshagai residents.

“If there is a separate region, then it will develop individually. The country will benefit from any major economic event. I think it will give impetus to development,” said a resident from Almaty region.

“I think this is correct from the ideological side. Because Ulytau is the center. That’s the way it should be,” noted future Ulytau region resident.
