Kazakhstan to increase number of grants and stipends for students

Kazakhstan will soon have its first online universities. A new training tool in the higher education system was discussed at an extended meeting of the relevant department. Overall, the number of university grants will be increased by 5,000, of which 60 percent will be allocated to technical majors, said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Kuanysh Yergaliyev.

“Grants in technical and IT areas will be increased from 40 to 60 percent. The issue of allocating educational grants for school graduates from western regions and families of military personnel, law enforcement and special government officials who have lost their lives while protecting public order, as well as for talented children, winners of Olympiads and competitions for entering universities, is currently being worked out,” said Kuanysh Yergaliyev, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Education and Science.

The ministry also noted that, on the instructions of the Head of State, the stipends for students of domestic universities will increase by 20 percent and for graduate and PhD students by 15 percent starting from September this year. In addition, 2022 will see an increase in the volume of state orders for training in vocational education institutions. Over 120,000 Kazakh citizens will be able to receive free technical and vocational education. It is 25,000 people more than in the 2021-2022 school years.
