Spring field work in Turkistan region starts early

Spring field work started early in the Turkistan region. It’s all due to the warm climate. It is now 10 degrees above zero in the Zhetisai district, which is the southernmost point of the country. Farmers are planting early cabbage. The first harvest is planned for spring.

“I planted cabbage on five hectares of land. I plan to harvest 300 tonnes of crops, the same amount as last year. These are special cabbage varieties, namely ‘pandion’ and ‘zarissima’, which are resistant to cold,” said Saparaly Ussenov, resident of Zhetisai district.

More than 1,000 hectares of fields were allocated for white cabbage in the Zhetisai region. The total area under crops of vegetables and grains exceeds 78,000 hectares. Local farmers were the first in the region to start sowing. In the region, spring field work will not begin until mid-February.

“We are now preparing for the sowing campaign. We are calculating the volume of diesel fuel needed. In addition, it is planned to allocate 4.5 billion tenge of subsidies to farmers for the purchase of mineral fertilizers,” said Alibek Plalov, Spokesperson for the Agriculture Department of Turkistan region.

The technology allowing to harvest three crops per year has been used in the Turkistan region for several years now. Farmers take one area where they plant cabbage in winter, potatoes in spring, and cucumbers and tomatoes in summer. Thus, it is possible to collect fruits all year round. As a result, the yield of the harvest increases, and so does the income of the farmers.
