Popular cartoons to air in Kazakh from January

Patrick Star, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Fireman Sam. The famous animated characters will speak Kazakh language soon. The content will air on TiJi and Nickelodeon TV channels for at least 600 hours in Kazakh next year. The first broadcast is scheduled for January.

“The state budget allocated 570 million tenge for the translation of 675 hours of dubbing of TiJi and Nickelodeon children’s channels. The translation will be educationally-oriented as well. Also, Nickelodeon will add 200 hours of airtime out-of-schedule,” said Bolat Tlepov, Kazakh vice Minister of Information and Social Development.

Cartoons dubbing is done at the “Kazakhfilm” studio. Foreign TV companies gave thorough consideration. Their representatives casted voice actors themselves. Each text is carefully checked. The main task is not just to translate speech of the characters, but also to make it understandable for young viewers. The priority was given to cartoons that are of the greatest interest to children.

“These cartoons have famous characters such as Tchoupi and Doudou, Robocar Poli. In total, 11 cartoons. The dubbing of nine out of them is ready. We translate 265 episodes of the “SpongeBob” animated series. We plan to complete everything by the end of this month. The work is 80 percent done. We will complete it by the end of December,” noted Aruuana Serikbayeva, Head of Production at Shaken Aimanov Kazakhfilm Studio.

Nickelodeon broadcasts in 70 countries in 22 languages, and TiJi – in 20 countries in 14 languages.
