Festival of Kazakh films takes place in France, Belgium and Luxembourg

The Festival of Kazakh films is taking place in Paris. The event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence began with the premiere screening of the film ‘Tomiris’. It is the first time the historical drama is shown on the big screen in France.

“In a sense, this festival of Kazakh films is a continuation of the cooperation agreement between Paris and Nur-Sultan, which will be based on cultural exchange,” said Arnaud Ngatcha, Deputy Mayor of Paris.

“I think people have a thirst for big screen movies, festivals and live audiences. Especially when it comes to getting emotions and feedback right after the movie. I think it’s very important for the promotion of our cinema, for inspiration and for new creative ideas, as well as for understanding which direction does the cinema, both the international and domestic, move,” said Aizhan Lighg, an actress.

In addition to Paris, Strasbourg, Brussels and Luxembourg will also hold the screenings. Until December 16, the viewers will be shown the films ‘Amanat’ by Satybaldy Narymbetov, ‘Yellow Cat’ by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, ‘Kazakh Lessons’ by Yermek Shynarbayev and a documentary biography of Alla Ilchun, Kazakh muse of Christian Dior.

“France is a country of international recognition that was often the first to reveal to the world the talents from different nations, including my own country Kazakhstan. This is all thanks to several festivals in Cannes, Vesoul, Cabourg and Nantes, which helped many Kazakh filmmakers to become famous in France and in other countries,” said Andre Ivanov, the President of Festival of Kazakh Films.
