National Museum opens exhibition dedicated to Day of First President and independence anniversary

‘At the beginning of a long journey’ - a unique exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence and celebration of the Day of the country’s First President opened in Nur-Sultan. The name of the exposition was chosen after a painting by Kazakh and Soviet artist Nikolai Tretyakov, created by him in 1960. The painting became the centerpiece of the exhibition. It depicts the meeting of a young and promising graduate of vocational school No. 8 Nursultan Nazarbayev with his relatives and fellow countrymen in the village of Chemolgan in Almaty region. The reason for the meeting was an article in the Dzerzhinets newspaper about the great achievements of the future President of the country. The exhibition also features rare photographs and photographic documents related to the activities of Kazakhstan's First President.

“When he created his painting, he gave it a unique title, which is ‘At the beginning of a long journey’. It was as if he had foreseen that the young student who had finished his studies and shared his joy with his fellow countrymen was just beginning his long journey. We are very pleased that we are now giving new life to Tretyakov's magnificent work of art,” said Arystanbek Mukhamediuly, Director of the National Museum of Kazakhstan.
