6th meeting of “Astana Club” takes place in Kazakhstan’s capital

The “Astana Club” international platform brought together authoritative experts again. The sixth meeting of the forum is taking place in Nur-Sultan. The main topics of the first day are the energy crisis, climate change and geopolitics.

“We are witnessing colossal tectonic shifts in all areas, both in economic matters and in geopolitics. We see how important energy changes and climate changes remain. The energy crisis that we are seeing around the world also affects the interests of the countries of Greater Eurasia and Kazakhstan, particularly. This is an opportunity not only to analyze, but also to predict how we can find the best ways out of crisis situations,” said Lidiya Parkhomchik, expert at the Institute of World Economics and Politics.

One of the traditional themes of the Astana Club is nuclear safety. World experts continue to highlight the contribution of Kazakhstan to nuclear disarmament.

“Kazakhstan at the end of the Cold War gave up 1,400 nuclear weapons. We went from over 65,000 nuclear weapons down to less than 14,000 today. That’s still too many. But that’s an accomplishment. So we need to reinvigorate that process. And Kazakhstan has the right and the ability to be a leader in that. And I think all of you should be very proud of that heritage,” noted Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute.
