Astana Opera International Opera Academy starts its first academic year

The International Opera Academy at the State Opera and Ballet Theater ‘Astana Opera’ started its work in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan. 16 students were selected from hundreds of applicants, who are now improving their vocal skills under the guidance of the best domestic and foreign teachers. Young people who have successfully gone through all three stages of the selection process and won a grant from the Academy will be taught not only singing, but also Italian for two years. Maestro Francesko Medda, who was specially invited from Belgium, assessed the students’ skills as very high. According to him, young singers need to work hard to reach the world opera level.

“It’s hard but at the same time it’s easy, because when you love what you do, everything is so much easier. But it’s important to work hard. These guys have a passion for their craft. That’s half the success, and now they just need to focus and study a lot in order to move forward. I brought here the Italian technique, interpretation and the metric structure of poetry, correct pronunciation. I will be teaching the students the Italian language and word stress rules. The life of an artist is an exam in front of the audience. So we are very happy to prepare our young students for the Academy’s first concert,” said Francesko Medda, guest teacher from Belgium.

The first reporting concert of the International Opera Academy is scheduled for early November.
