Kazakhstan pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai hosts discussion on carbon footprint reduction

Kazakhstan has called on all states in the world to reduce their carbon footprint. The participants of the World Expo spoke about the measures taken in the world to reduce the harmful impact on the environment during a meeting in the Kazakh pavilion. It was the first of 30 planned meetings at the country’s pavilion. The organizers dedicated it to the issues of transition to a green economy. Meanwhile, Kazakh industrial enterprises are introducing the best available technologies. According to the new environmental code, 50 companies were included in the list. Once they receive integrated environmental permits, they will be exempted from emission fees. This money should accrue to the introduction of new technologies. A noteworthy detail is that the National Decarbonization Union underlines that Kazakhstan is now building a carbon response system.

“We already have enterprises and corporations that have already received integrated environmental permits. They have an approved strategy to reduce the best available technologies. One of the companies that have received an integrated environmental permit is the Kazakh aluminum smelter, which is 90-percent compliant with the new available technologies. They have anchor points that will fully reach the European level within 10 years,” said Yermek Umarov, spokesperson for Kazakh Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources.

“Our center is a conduit of the green bridge partnership program, which unites many countries in the field of green economy to attract climate investments both in Kazakhstan and in the countries of Central Asian region. Our center promotes the accelerated transition of our country to a green economy, to business development, promotes investments attraction, including climate investments,” added Zhanar Igenova, Acting Chairperson of the International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center.
