Turkey honors Zhambyl Zhabayev

In honor of the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev, a commemorative plaque was erected on the street named after the great poet in Ankara, Turkey. Now residents and visitors of the city will be able to get access to videos and written sources about Zhambyl in Turkish language using a QR code. During a solemn ceremony, a wreath was also laid at the monument of the poet’s teacher Suyunbai Aronuly. The event was organized by Kazakh Embassy in Turkey, TURKSOY International organization and Kecioren municipality. Zhambyl Street in Ankara was opened in 2017.

“Zhambyl Zhabayev is the pride not only of Kazakh, but also of all Turkic peoples. Our youth should know about him. That is why we need such events, there should be more of them. Kecioren district now has another commemorative plaque dedicated to the Kazakh poet-improviser. There are streets and parks named after Kazakh figures. And that’s not all. We have many interesting ideas, which we will share soon,” said Turgut Altinok, Mayor of Kecioren municipality.

“It is a pleasure to be a student of Kazakhstan in a Turkish country. Whichever city in Turkey you go to, you will for sure see monuments, streets named after famous Kazakhs. People here always welcome us very warmly. It is very nice for those of us who live abroad,” noted student Tilek Makhambetzhan.
