‘Unknown Kazakhstan’ project: film crew shooting documentary in Semei

The film crew of the project ‘Unknown Kazakhstan’ has arrived in Semei. In the homeland of the great Kazakh poet Abai, the team plans to film one of the episodes of a documentary about the unique places in the country. The expedition plans to stay in the east for eight days and in that time gather all necessary information about the region. In total, the documentary filmmakers will cover a distance of about 100,000 kilometers and within a few months will travel almost across all Kazakhstan. The project will be implemented in three languages, namely Kazakh, Russian and English. The film will premiere on the Independence Day of Kazakhstan on December 16.

“This project is of great historical importance to our younger generation. It is therefore gratifying that it started from here, from Semei, the homeland of Shakarim, Abai, Mukhtar Auezov and most of the Kazakh intelligentsia,” said Bakytzhan Baiakhmetov, Mayor of Semei city.

“We are implementing this project as part of the ‘Make Way for the Young’ fund together with our partners. The main goal is to show our country. The second goal is to meet people that not even all of the Kazakh residents know about. It is very important because they have done so much for our country,” said Rafael Gassanov, project organizer.
