Expedition to sacred places in Aktobe region

Members of the expedition are collecting data on historical and religious figures who lived in the Aktobe region in the 18th to 20th centuries. The staff of local museums and local history experts went on a trip to the sacred places of the region. They will visit Khromtau and Aiteke Bi districts. They will also visit the necropolises of Oisylkara and Bekkul Baba, as well as the burial site of Abulkhair Khan. The data collecting work is carried out as part of the project ‘Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan’. Since 2017, five districts of the Aktobe region have already been examined and hundreds of cultural heritage monuments have been identified. The results of the research will be published.

“There will be a catalogue, books and magazines published. For a wide range of people interested in the history of the region, materials will be available on the Internet and in other media outlets,” said Aryngazy Berkimbayev, local history expert.

“In previous years, we shot special films about sacred places and religious figures of the Aktobe region. For example, about Suleimen from the village of Oiyl and Yesset batyr from the Alga village. These films were presented every Friday. This year we plan to continue this work based on the new data received,” said Kydyrgali Yermukan, expedition leader.
