Kazakhstan to conduct census digitally

Kazakhstan intends to completely abandon papers and to automate the census process, said Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin during a meeting of the Government. He noted that participation of every Kazakh citizen in the census is extremely important.

“On behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the census is planned to be conducted from September 1 to October 30. As it is known, the first census took place in 2009. This event is of great social and economic significance. The census results will give a wide range of indicators, which are the most accurate data and the basis for analyzing the situation in the country, forecasting and making appropriate decisions. Therefore, the participation of every Kazakh citizen in the census is very important. Digital technologies will be used to automate the census process with a complete rejection of paper,” said Askar Mamin, Kazakh Prime Minister.

During the meeting, the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the use of electronic tablets instead of paper during the census will significantly reduce the cost of the procedure.

“The national census will cost 2.6 times less than the census in 2009 thanks to the use of modern technologies. Moreover, the quality and speed of data collection will be greatly improved. After the event, the tablets will be donated to schools and hospitals. The census is a large-scale event that requires the participation of the whole community,” added Alikhan Smailov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

The census is planned to be conducted in 61 countries in 2021.
