International occupational standards to be introduced in 70% of professions by 2025

Kazakh social workers will have to meet international standards. By 2025, occupational standards will be introduced in 70 percent of professions. First Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Akmadi Sarbassov announced this at a briefing. For this, about 200 experts have already been trained and have the necessary skills to develop requirements for employees, he said. At the same time, it was decided to train future professionals properly starting from the student years. Higher education institutions in the country are now developing educational programs, thereby providing their students with the skills that their future employer will require of them, Sarbassov added. This will primarily affect those professions that are engaged with the health and safety of the population. He also stressed that there are currently various ways of recognizing competencies, but in fact there is no single legislative standard for this in both regulated and unregulated occupations.

“Our task for the next two years is therefore to establish high-quality regulatory framework for the further development of the national system of professional qualifications. The goal here is the recognition of competencies and skills, as well as the establishment of a national qualifications authority to serve as a coordinator of the work being done on the assessment of qualifications,” Sarbassov said.
